Adelphi, MD – University of Maryland Global Campus (UMGC) has announced its 3rd annual Virtual Financial Wellness Day, powered by vFairs. The virtual event will take place on Sept. 13, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. (EST). Participants will get a chance to interact with finance experts in an immersive virtual environment.
As the attendees log into the event, they’ll see the navigation menu. From there, they can easily select where they want to go or what they would like to do. For instance, if they would like to know more about the activities happening at the event, they can view the event agenda and speaker information.
They can visit the exhibit hall to view all the virtual booths. Once they click into a booth, they’ll be able to connect with booth reps or book chat slots with them. In case they are looking for information, they can save content into their swag bags and email it to themselves later. Attendees will also have a chance to network with each other virtually.
Sharing his excitement about the event, vFairs CEO, Muhammad Younas said, “The virtual event platform ensures easy access and seamless navigation for all participants which will contribute to the event’s success. We’re excited to see how participants benefit from it,”
UMGC has also partnered with the Financial Planning Association (FPA), National Capital Area, to empower the general public, students, faculty, and staff with essential financial management skills. The event caters to a diverse audience breakdown of 40% general public, 30% UMGC students, and 30% UMGC faculty and staff. This unique event strives to address the financial concerns of the underserved population that lacks access to professional financial guidance.
“Students and expert volunteers will provide free one-on-one counseling and classroom-style educational presentations,” said Kathleen Sindell, Program Director of Finance and Economics Programs.
The event’s focus on practical solutions is what sets it apart. At the virtual event, highly qualified Certified Financial Planner (CFP)™ professionals, accompanied by CFP students at UMGC, will be stationed at booths and available to meet with participants at the Financial Wellness Day. Free one-on-one advice will be offered on a spectrum of financial topics, including how to get out of debt, how to manage retirement planning, and the best investment strategies. CFPs are also available to discuss tax issues, insurance, estate planning, and other concerns related to financial security.
In addition to one-on-one advice, the event features three free classroom-style workshop presentations on financial planning topics including what you should know about financial planning, putting yourself in the driver’s seat of retirement, and planning a well-rounded retirement.
There are 14 faculty practitioners in the UMGC registered CFP program, including seven CFPs. Six faculty members have advanced degrees. The faculty also represent a cross-section of diversity; currently, 60 percent are ethnically diverse. Five of the faculty members are women.
Participants will have the freedom to engage with as many financial planners as needed. All financial planners are volunteers who will not engage in any product or service selling. Attendees are encouraged to come as they are or bring relevant financial documents to receive tailored advice.
Building on the success of the 2022 event, which saw more than 1,400 personal financial planning guides downloaded from the Financial Wellness Day Resource Center, this year’s event promises an even greater impact.
